Mahindra Rexton

Mahindra has announced the launch of the SsangYong Rexton W in the Indian market, which is brought in as a CKD from Korea. The Rexton is in its third generation and the next generation model will be developed by Mahindra (at Chakan) for domestic and export markets. The Rexton is available as a 7-seater. The vehicle is badged as SsangYong Rexton by Mahindra and thus there is ‘by Mahindra’ badge on the tail gate. The SsangYong Rexton is powered by a 2696 cc diesel engine which has 5-cylinders and is offered in two set of tunes. The manual Rexton (RX270 XDi) produces 162 BHP of power at 4000 RPM and 340 Nm of torque between 1800-3250 RPM. The RX270 XDi Rexton has a top speed of 180 km/hr returning an ARAI certified mileage of 12.4 km/l. The RX270 XVT produces 184 BHP of power at 4000 RPM and 402 Nm of torque between 1600-3000 RPM (Mahindra even compared this engine with the Skoda Superb!). This variant of the Rexton has a top speed of 194 km/hr and returns 11.18 km/l mileage as per ARAI


SsangYong Rexton W Prices
Rexton RX5 (manual) – Rs. 23.72 lakhs
Rexton RX7 (automatic) – Rs. 26.80 lakhs
Mahindra says the prices of the Rexton are Rs. 2 lakhs less than the Toyota Fortuner and Ford Endeavour. However the pricing is introductory, just like how the company does it always. Mahindra has invested Rs. 63 crore to bring the SsangYong Rexton to India, updating the plastic quality and giving lighter shade to the interiors. The Rexton has a standard 2-years, 1-lakh kms warranty with an extra 1-year 1-lakh kms warranty being offered as an extended option. Mahindra has achieved 22% localization with the Rexton. Bookings are now open in Delhi NCR and Mumbai, with other cities seeing availability in a phased manner.
